Technology today is changing our everyday lives. Many people, however, aren’t aware that technology also is impacting dentistry in new and exciting ways. Cutting edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and creating satisfying results. One breakthrough instrument, called CEREC 3D, allows dentists to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic crowns, saving patients time and inconvenience.

At McKenzie Dental, we value your time. We know how time consuming it can be to get crown work done, so we have introduced the CEREC 3D system to our offices, and are pleased to offer treatment in just one visit.

CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chair side Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. CEREC uses Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to create your crown in the dental office.

Only one appointment is required and your restoration is made and inserted on the same day. No temporary crown or second visit is required (in most cases).

Rather than “cementing” your crown in place, as is what happens with gold and metal crowns, CEREC crowns are chemically bonded to your tooth. This means the dentist can save as much healthy tooth structure as possible, while providing you with a dental crown that supports your tooth.

CEREC crowns are made from a solid block of compressed porcelain which ensures a strong, uniform crown. This technology is best suited for posterior (back) teeth, and cannot be used in all cases. Please ask your dentist if your tooth is a candidate for a one visit crown.
